Free Domain Extensions: Claim a Real Domain, Not a Hosted Subdomain
Claim a genuine registered domain under a public TLD through DomainROC's eligible sub-$2 first-year promotion. Not a hosted subdomain; learn about renewal and ticket-based claims.
Can you launch a Web3 demo on an independently registered domain without paying the first-year registration fee? At DomainROC, qualifying applicants can request a genuine domain registration through our free-domain promotion, for eligible names whose first-year price is no more than USD 2. To find the current claim process, [open a support ticket](/dashboard/tickets). This is not a complimentary subdomain issued under someone else's domain.
A real registered domain, not somebody else's subdomain
The phrase "free domain extensions" is common in search, but technically you register a complete domain name, such as mydemo.cfd, under a public top-level domain (TLD) such as .cfd. You do not acquire the entire .cfd registry, and you do not receive a hosted address such as mydemo.host.example.
| Option | Example | What you control |
|---|---|---|
| Independent domain registration | `mydemo.cfd` | Domain management, DNS settings and renewal subject to registry rules |
| Provided subdomain | `mydemo.host.example` | A name dependent on someone else's parent domain |
| Free site hosting address | `project.platform.example` | A useful preview address, often controlled by the hosting platform |
The key test for "free TLD" search results is whether the full name is independently registered and managed under your account.
Four different ways people use the word free
- Free subdomain: convenient for a prototype, but you do not own the parent domain.
- Free hosting: your website can be hosted at no charge, while a custom domain may cost extra.
- Low first-year registration: a domain may cost only USD 1–2 initially, while renewal costs much more.
- DomainROC's free first-year claim: for eligible ordinary domain registrations priced at USD 2 or below, the promotion can cover the qualifying initial registration, subject to support confirmation. Renewal is separate.
A first-year promotion is not a lifetime-free registration. Availability, registry restrictions, limits and eligibility are confirmed through support.
Why not rely on Freenom for a permanent brand?
Older free-domain articles frequently mention Freenom and suffixes such as .tk, .ml and .ga. A free allocation program can change, and continued access or renewal terms may be uncertain. A long-lived brand, business email domain or SEO project should use an independently managed name with a transparent renewal plan.
Low-cost TLD examples: the renewal bill matters
The following are historical standard first-year prices cited in DomainROC's October 2026 pricing guide; they are not live offers or guaranteed eligible names.
| Extension | Historical first year (USDT) | Historical renewal (USDT) | Possible use |
|---|---|---|---|
| `.cfd` | 1.28 | 17.93 | Web3 demo or financial-technology prototype |
| `.cyou` | 1.28 | 17.93 | Personal profile and community |
| `.shop` | 1.47 | 35.87 | Product showcase |
| `.sbs` | 1.62 | 17.93 | Creative landing page |
| `.buzz` | 1.85 | 29.89 | Campaign or event page |
Check current domain pricing before choosing. Premium names, special restrictions and changing prices are not automatically eligible for this promotion.
How to claim your free registered domain at DomainROC
Step 1: Sign in to DomainROC or create an account.
Step 2: Use domain search to shortlist a preferred name and a backup. Do not pay for an ordinary domain order first.
Step 3: [Submit a support ticket for free-domain claim instructions](/dashboard/tickets). Use a subject such as "Free domain extension claim" and include your preferred names.
Step 4: Support will explain the current terms, eligibility and official fulfillment route in the ticket. Follow that route rather than sending payment to addresses received in chat.
This is a support-assisted promotion, not an automatic zero-price checkout. Until support confirms the request and registration, the name is not reserved or registered. Once fulfilled, inspect your domain asset, expiration date, DNS and renewal settings in your own account.
What happens after the free first year?
Renewal is not free by default. A short-lived test project might be an excellent fit; a five-year business site should calculate the full holding cost before committing. Take note of registry rules, expiration reminders, Whois/RDAP records and transfer terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is it a real TLD or just a subdomain?
You get an independently registered name such as mydemo.cfd, where .cfd is the TLD. It is not a hosted subdomain, and you do not become the operator of that top-level registry.
Can a promotional domain be used for SEO?
Yes, independently registered, working domains can host normal websites. Search performance depends on the site and content, not whether the initial registration was promotional.
Is a Trustpilot review required?
No. The claim process does not depend on any review. Customers with genuine experiences may review DomainROC on Trustpilot voluntarily, whether their experience was positive or negative. No review or screenshot is requested for eligibility.
